Done with the pictures soooo merry Christmas to everybody at home! I used to think North Carolina without snow didn't feel very "Christmas-y" but China sure one-ups it. The foreigner bars and restaurants have Christmas trees, play xmas music and stuff, but the Chinese hardly celebrate Christmas and it just tisn't the season here. Regardless, I've been quite busy lately with holiday stuff. The university held a Christmas dinner at some really upscale Sichuanese restaurant in town. Most dishes were amazing minus the painfully fiery rice noodles and soups that had EVERY organ you could think of in them... use your imagination if you want, but I'm talking EVERYTHING. Last night, it James birthday and close enough to Christmas where we decided we'd celebrate with some KTV. KTV stands for Karaoke Television and is all the rage in Asia as you've probably heard. None of us had been in Chengdu, so about ten of the teachers and a couple other acquaintances got together, "warmed-up" at some local bars and hit the KTV until 3am. It was great fun, especially because the English language songs were a little out of date or random, mostly limited to Abba, Spice Girls, the Beatles and Rihanna. Tonight, one of the teachers is hosting a Christmas/White Elephant party. I can't wait to see which gifts people got, considering the millions of bizarre options available in China.
