Our halloween decor flaunted in the kitchen. ....And a bottle of syrup.
Today wasn't the most exciting day of my life, that's for sure. But I'm pretty sure I helped out an old friend though and that's good enough for me.
Her name is Courtenay. Court-teh-nay. And she'll correct you if you state it wrong. She's that friend of yours who speak their mind, a lot. She also may be slightly over dramatic at times. She has strong stubborn opinions that she'll make sure you know and haircuts to make your jaw drop now and again. And you would be dubbed to have a selfesteem death-wish if you were to purposefully upset her. Even though she might be that person you sometimes have to bite your tounge and nod your head to, I still love her. And when you think about it, it really helps your self control and realizing that you don't really need to pick a little argument over on what tv show sucks or whether or not you hate that math teacher. I know I've become a better person because of her. I accept her for who she is and she has always been there for me like the great friend she is. We've known each other for five years know and we know everything about one another. But due to high school schedules we are not as close as we once were.
Courtenay rides my school bus on the way home, and today we had a subsitute bus driver. Courtenay had just moved into a new neighborhood, and without realizing it the bus driver had skipped her stop. So without hesitating, I invited her to come home with me until she could get a ride home rather than have to have the bus driver figure out where the heck he was going. When we reached my stop and went into my kitchen to chat we began a conversation that must have lasted a few good hours. Just asking about our lives and how school was going and everything else imaginable. And it just felt so great to be able to catch up with someone and spill your guts out about anything that was on your mind.
I had asked how things were going with her boyfriend, and she sort of had a break down. It turns out, that today she was having one of the worst days of her life. She just didn't want to say anything to ruin the mood. Her boyfriend and her had a minor disagreement. It couldn't even be labeled as a fight. Nothing major at all, just standard couple stuff. But a friend of ours had over heard Courtenay and her boyfriends conflict, and told her that she should stop fighting with him and that she should be so grateful to have such a nice boyfriend. The friend who said that is that one friend who can't mind his own business. I'm sure you've had one of those before. Anyway we talked it out and reassured her that our friend was completely out of line and to totally disregard his rude and uneeded comments.
Her step-dad arrived and we said our good byes, but before she left she thanked me for making her day better than she can possibly imagine.
And it just felt so good to know that I could help a friend out even though we weren't as close as we once were. And i love how it all took place in what i believe to be the soul of the house; my kitchen.
And thats what my picture is of and my friend and I sat in the closest two seats.
I hope you've enjoyed my tale.
Have a great day, -Danielle
